Howdy Cats & Kittens,

I can't remember what was in my last tour update, so, no apologies.

We started this tour on about the 6th of November. I have to write this just to give myself some sense of time. Some sense of where I am.

It is so easy to be unaware of what day it is when you're a ... a... what am I?

Anyway, we're on this little tour here with a couple of really great bands. I have to talk about The Flat Duo Jets first. The Flat Duo Jets have a new album that is a real achievement. It is so real. Let me just say that everybody in my band along with me know that this album is something very, very special. "Lucky Eye," the newest album from The Flat Duo Jets is one of those very few and far between recordings that comes along only rarely from any band. Dexters' lyrics are real yet cryptic. His voice is great. His song-writing is perfect. His guitar is authentic with his own style.  My favorite songs on this CD are, "Lucky Eye," "Sharks Flying In," "Lonely Guy" and...well, I just looked at all of the titles and every song is great! The song "New York Studio 1959" should be in a movie. Actually, every song on this CD should be used in films.

Thanks so much to Dexter and Crow for being on this tour with us. Thanks to Dexter and Crow for making such great and inspiring music.

The Amazing Crowns are the middle act on this bill and they're well...amazing! Very rocking yet with a good authentic sound. These guys are very high-energy. I think that this is one of the best bills that we've been able to tour with. I'm real glad that we were able to have two such great bands on this trip.

As I was writing this, Jimbo handed me a note entitled "Special Jimbo Update." Here's what it says.

  1. Hot dogs blow up when you put them in microwave!
  2. Banana peels are slippery, but not as much as in the cartoons!
  3. Insanity is when you try something again and again -- expecting different results! Think about it.

Well, that's all stuff that I'm sure that Jimbo has had first hand experience with.

O.K. I'm still listening to "Lucky Eye." It is so good. Every song seems to have every bit of Dexters' guts melted in. Every mood and emotion that you could feel is somehow mirrored in this CD. And, nobody hits straight down- strokes on a guit-fiddle like Dex. Wow! The closing song, "Little M," was written and sung by Crow and it is really meaningful. A very sweet song. You just have to hear this CD.

This trip started on Nov. 6, 1998. The first gig was in Baton Rouge. KLSU is a really cool college station that plays the heck out R. H. H. They had me up there for an interview and everyone was really nice. It's funny that R. H. H. can be at the top of the college charts for months on end, yet, the corporate types at commercial radio don't play us at all. By the way, did you know that commercial radio stations are just about all owned by the same few companies? That's why you never hear some of your favorite bands on The Edge or The Eagle. One silly guy in a suit and tie is controlling what you are listening to.

I've heard of R. H. H. fans calling and requesting one of our songs, and, the DJ says, "Sure we'll play it!" But, of course, he can't because modern commercial DJs have no say whatsoever in what is played on their station. For those fans who keep calling and calling the radio stations, requesting R. H. H., and bugging these radio people to death - I say, "give 'em hell!" It all helps and thank you.

We're getting two days off for Thanksgiving, then it's back on tour until the end of the year. We are playing New Year's Eve with the Mighty, Mighty Bosstones in Houston. Don't miss it.

Your buddy,
The Rev.
